It’s Time For Change To Come For Our Hidden Heroes Programs! That Why Attention Is Increasing for Military and Veteran Caregivers

Nashville was one of fifty-four cities announced this week (named “Hidden Heroes Cities”) by the Elizabeth Dole Foundation to challenge communities across America to organize and provide local military caregivers with the resources they need. Tom Hanks, Tom Brokaw, Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert McDonald joined Senator Elizabeth Dole in Washington, DC this week to launch the Hidden Heroes campaign to call vital attention to America’s 5.5 million military and veteran caregivers.

If you are a military caregiver, you may be interested in the new website, www.hiddenheroes.org, which features a private community where military caregivers can share questions and advice, a directory for caregiver resources, and a national military caregiver registry to help connect caregivers with support.

Addressing what she hopes to accomplish through the campaign, Senator Dole said, “The Elizabeth Dole Foundation envisions an America where military caregivers are empowered, appreciated and recognized for their service to the nation. Together, are working towards a future where supporting military caregivers is no longer a cause, but it is part of the culture of our nation.”

Caregivers by WholeCare is currently assisting veterans and their surviving spouses who live in Nashville, TN and surrounding areas with applying for and receiving the Veterans Aid & Attendance benefit. It is a non-service benefit for veterans (and widows of veterans) that served during a war-time period, and allows veterans or surviving spouses to receive additional monetary benefits. If you are interested in seeing if you or a loved one are eligible this benefit, click here for more details.

The Veterans Aid & Attendance paperwork can be daunting and complicated, and Caregivers by WholeCare is available to help walk Nashville-area veterans through this process for free. We want to help you apply and receive the benefits you deserve. Please call 615-298-9201 for further information on the VA Aid & Attendance benefit.
