Some of these benefits include:
- Less risk of developing depression
- A stronger immune systems
- A healthier heart
- Reduced risk of disease
- A Longer Life
A study conducted by the Center for Aging Studies at Flanders University found that seniors with a large network of friends outlived those with the fewest number of friends by 22 percent.
Companionship can keep at bay the depression that tends to accompany isolation, immobility or loss of a loved one.
Companionship can also reduce stress and help reinforce important lifestyle habits, such as healthy eating and exercise.
A support network also makes recovering from major illness or surgery easier.
A senior companion can engage seniors in conversations and activities that help keep the mind sharp as well as provide transportation to social activities. Studies show that seniors with large social networks are at a reduced risk of developing memory loss.
