Our Community – October, November, December

October is Friends of the Library Month. “A city with a great library is a great city.” The Library Foundation is essentially the best friend to our library. The Nashville Public Library Foundation was established in 1997 to raise funds for the enhancement of collections, programs, and facilities and has increased the library’s visibility locally, nationally, and internationally. Private support through the Foundation funds exceptional programming and extraordinary spaces, like the teen center and the stately courtyard and garden, ensuring a collaboration that continues to strengthen our community. For more info call 615-880-2613 or visit www.nplf.org.

November is National Family Caregiver Month. The Tennessee Respite Coalition (TRC) serves the entire state of Tennessee to ensure the quality of life for family caregivers through respite. Respite is the gift of time to family caregivers. Respite focuses on taking care of the family caregiver, providing them the break they need to stay healthy to continue caring for their loved one. The TRC, its staff, board members, regional members, volunteers, and family caregivers work on educating the community about the importance of respite and also provide respite resources for caregivers. Please contact the Statewide Respite Helpline at 1-888-579-3754 or visit our website at www.tnrespite.org if you or a caregiver you know needs assistance.

December is National Safe Toys and Gifts Month. We celebrate the Nashville International Center for Empowerment (NICE).

NICE is a nonprofit dedicated to empowering refugees and immigrants in Middle Tennessee through direct social services and educational programs. Every year they host a party in December and provide gifts for immigrant and refugee children. To help with this or the other great services NICE provides, contact 615-315-9681 or visit www.empowernashville.org.
